Inspired by many areas of art study, Dréa Zacharenko combines principles of both studio art and graphic design in her dynamic mixed media pieces.
She often begins work with either a birch board panel or a chipboard panel. She attempts to translate the world around her, often literally, gathering scraps of paper with simplified shapes and handwritten text and incorporating them into her work.
Her work shows a constant attempt to make a better connection with her surroundings. Her sketchy, rough style forms a sort of stream-of-consciousness dialogue that involves the viewer in her pursuit to connect the dots of daily life.
Dréa attended Louisiana Tech University where she double majored. She received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Studio Art 2-D. She is also a native of Louisiana and moved to Birmingham in 2007.
