From the Lite Box Website:

Lite Box Gallery will exhibit this show from January 14 through February 26 in the ArtFolk space at the Young & Vann Building in downtown Birmin…gham, Alabama. The show will be one of the largest exhibits of its kind in the state, featuring more than 30 Alabama artists who are exploring the increasingly popular medium of printmaking. Featured artists include many of Alabama’s most talented printmakers as well as emerging artists.

Printmaking can take many forms, from colorful screenprints and bold block prints to the delicate lines of intaglio and the nostalgic look and feel of letterpress. Visitors to “First Impressions” will see examples of each type of printmaking and gain insight into the different artistic processes, including the new frontier of digital printmaking. In addition, weekly workshops, demonstrations, and artist talks will enable the public to experiment with printmaking and make their own art pieces.
An exhibition at Litebox Gallery May-June

Litebox Gallery will hold an opening reception for the show ALIAS, curated by Lisa Michitti, Friday, May 14 from 5-9pm. The show’s premise is that contemporary artists in various mediums can be identified by their artwork in addition to, and often instead of, their physical appearance. The artists exhibiting in the show share the commonality of a strong personal style and a striving for excellent craftsmanship. On view will be paintings, sculpture, book arts, printmaking, and photography as well as installation art.

Lisa Michitti is a local artist from Nashville, TN. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from Birmingham Southern College and her Master of Fine Art from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Her personal work can be viewed at mtheorydesign.com. She currently resides in Eastlake and teaches in the art department at the University of Montevallo.

Local artists featured are Alan Skees, Pat Snow, Isabelle Rohr, Paul Wilm, Palo Pallas, Laura Ledbetter, Roger Jones, Kevin Whitman and Justin Banger along with an artist who works under the alias Big Fat Monster. Many Tuscaloosa artists will also be included: University of Alabama professors William Dooley and Sarah Marshall, alumni Michael Merry and Jamey Grimes and current graduate students Rebecca Reynolds and Abi Wright.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday noon to 5pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm. The gallery phone number during the run of the show is 205.716.1665; for an appointment at another time please call 205.246.6503 or 205.913.5284.
On April 17, 2010 the Birmingham-Jefferson Chapter of the American Red Cross will turn a section of Birmingham's "Loft District" into an outdoor digital art show featuring digital artists from around the globe! Illuminated art will be projected on screens and buildings along 2nd Avenue North between 22nd and 24th Street. We will accept entries between January 1st and March 15th, 2010. The top thirty pieces will be projected and juried by a panel of judges. We are looking for innovative and visually compelling examples of: digital graphic art, digital animations (less than 2 min.), digital photography, digitally altered photography, and interactive concepts. Digital photographs of fine art will not be accepted this year.
